Accommodation

Just a list of some accommodation I would recommend in cities I've been to:

Key:
B : Budget. Simpler properties that cater to travelers that are on a budget. They have basic necessities and usually have shared bathroom facilities.

T: Tourist. Properties that have been rated 2 or 3 stars. These are usually good value for money, something that doesn't break the bank too much.

L: Luxury. Properties that have been rated 4 or 5 stars. Expect a higher level of service, higher quality furnishings and decor and extra additional services.

*Those that have dorm rooms will be stated.

*Cambodia

Koh Rong Island, Sihanoukville

- Coco's Bungalow Resort (T)

Right by the wharf and right in the heart of Koh Rong's 'night life'. It's one of the most popular accommodations on the island. It has a range of hotel style rooms and bungalows and are just recently building dorm rooms to cater to all types of travelers. Their restaurant serves delicious food at reasonable prices and their cocktails aren't too bad either.
http://cocos-kohrong.com/

- Treehouse Bungalows (T)

Right at the end of the main beach, it's a 2 minute walk through the jungle to your own secluded beach. Opt for a treehouse bungalow (has only one double bed) which is about USD$30 or a normal beachfront bungalow for about USD$20-25 (usually has a double bed plus single, or two double beds). Has a great restaurant which is known for its delicious wood-oven pizza. Electricity gets turned off at 10.30pm every night so be sure to bring a torch if you don't want to get lost in the dark.

Phnom Penh

- 88 Backpackers Resort (T)

Good location, about a 10 - 15 minute walk away from the Riverside. Great staff and you can easily book your bus or train tickets here. There are no direct website I could find but this is listed on HostelWorld. Cost roughly USD$7 for a dorm room, per night.

(No website could be found).

- Mantaray Island Resort (T)

This place has three types of accommodation available. Dorm, private rooms with shared bathroom facilities or private rooms with their own ensuite. **Please note that there are many different properties in Indonesia that don't have the resources to advertise online. These two were great places I stayed in, but I also stayed at others whilst there which we had found just by walking around.

*Laos

Luang Prabang

- Khammany Inn Hostel (B)

This is a very basic hostel with everything you need. It is clean and the staff are welcoming. Also, it is only a 5 - 10 minute walk to the night markets.

Nong Khiaw

Mandala Ou (T) (L)

A small, beautiful resort on the banks of the Nam Ou River. It is only a few minutes walk from their main bus terminal and about a 15 minute bike ride to the small town centre of Nong Khiaw. The staff are super friendly, the atmosphere relaxing and their food is incredible. A great place to splurge if you can.

*Myanmar (Burma)

Bagan

Blue Bird Hotel (T)

The first two things I tell people about visiting Bagan is when looking for a place to stay always put AC and pool high on your priority list. This hostel has both these things but the difference is that the AC actually works (and really, really well) and the pool is clean and swim-able! The staff are really attentive and the rooms are absolutely gorgeous. (I rave on about this hotel in my post about Bagan). The food is great, too, but price wise you are better to eat in town at either Black Rose or Star Restaurant.

Yangon (Rangoon)

- Wai Wai Place (Wai Wai Bed and Breakfast (T)(B)

This is hands down the best place to stay in while in Yangon. Wai Wai, the owner, is incredibly hospitable, generous and absolutely lovely. She has recently opened up another house to accommodate all the extra people that are lining up wanting to stay at her house. She is also an incredible chef and will happily host dinners for her guests without wanting anything in return. I really wish we could have stayed longer as she made our stay in Myanmar so special.

*Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur

Reggae Mansion (T)

A very hip place to stay. Great decor and vibe and in a superb location right near a subway line.

*New Zealand

Keri Keri

- Pagoda Lodge (B)(T)

A slightly kooky place to stay. Has many themed 'rooms' for very affordable prices, but also has empty sites for those who just want to set up their own tents or bring their campervans. The communal areas were very clean and the main area of Keri Keri was only a short drive away. Otherwise, this was a great place to unwind and relax in beautiful surroundings.

Ohakune

- Peaks Motor Inn (T)

A great place to stay especially if it is for a longer period. If you are heading there for the snow, this is a perfect spot as it is on the road which leads to the mountain, but also not too far from the main downtown area.

Rotorua

- Rotorua Motel (T)

A small establishment that has recently been refurbished. The staff are lovely and very welcoming. It has a great location, clean and tidy rooms and for a great price.

*Philippines

- Boracay Regency Resort (L)

Beautiful decor and great food. Set right on the beach and has a pool bar.

- Frendz Resort Boracay (B)

Dorm rooms and private rooms available. Has great staff and is set a couple minutes off the beach. A great place if you want to meet people and just want something a little more than just a room. WIFI here worked exceptionally well and is in walking distance to D*Mall. This place came highly recommended by fellow backpackers.

Coron, Palawan

- Balaibinda Lodge (T)

This is located right in the heart of Coron and near their local markets. The establishment is pretty small but it still feels uncluttered and peaceful. It's tastefully decorated and the staff are very polite. Their WIFI is also surprisingly fast, sometimes cuts in and out but not too often. This is definitely an affordable place with a great location.
http://balaibinda.com/

-Sophia's Garden Resort (L)

The staff here exceeded expectations. They were amazing before and during my star. They are attentive but not intrusive. There are only 8 bungalows so the service feels almost personalised. Everything is well maintained and beautifully decorated. As the resort is about 5 to 10 minutes out of the main town area, you can be limited to eating at the restaurant. The staff does offer lifts to the town for a fee. However, if you opt to eat the restaurant, the food is great and the prices are very, very reasonable (about 150 - 300 PHP). They also provide tour packages.

*Samoa

- Aggie Greys Resort (L)

About 10 minutes away from the airport on it's own man-made lagoon. There are free shuttle services between here and the bungalows.
http://aggiegreys.com/

Located near City Hall in Jeju City. Within walking distance to local movie theatre and eating areas. It's about a 10 minute taxi from Jeju Airport.

- Redfish Heart of Seoul (T)

Located in Insadong, the cultural and artistic area of Seoul. It's about a 5 to 10 minute walk to Insadong and only one or two stops away from the most popular palaces in Seoul. It's right next to Jungno-3ga subway station so it's easy to get to and from anywhere from this hostel.

It is also close the Chinese Embassy if your plan is to get your visa whilst in Chiang Mai. The staff are very friendly and all the amenities at a good standard. If you are going with a few people it pays to upgrade to their top floor 'dream' suite. Has a great view of the mountains in the distance and it is incredibly spacious.

Chiang Rai

-The North Hotel (B)(T)

This place is a 5-10  minute walk behind the main bus terminal and the night bazaar. The prices are great if you are to share a double room or book into their rooftop dorm room. The facilities are super clean and has great wifi. Rooms are very tastefully decorate with traditional Thai decor.

Right around the corner from the 'backpacker' area. This is a relatively new property for the city. Rooms are around USD$7 for a dorm bed and they offer help to book buses or tours within the city. They use an old style apartment building so be ready to climb a lot of stairs.
